Dr. Chambers On Call Sunday January 15th

Okay you've met someone and you want to take the next step. You think this could be the "one".  It doesn't matter whether you're 30, 50 or 70 you both should discuss your health and but, how much?  That's the question I'll open with on today's show.

Dr. Chambers on Call on KFWB News Talk 980 4-5 PM today - the number to call with your general medical question is 888 539 2980 OR email anytime drchambersoncall@gmail.com

Star Trek wants to render me useless and all for a measly $10 million.

When I was a kid I was a big Star Trek fan. I always loved the way "Bones" would diagnose someone sick by passing a little scanner over his body. We actually do have similar scanners BUT they don't diagnose. Not even close. Now comes an offer - $10 million dollars to the first person who develops a Star Trek Tricorder that can quickly diagnose 15 common and important diseases. Good luck with that oh and...don't count on the money for your retirement. Winning the lottery would be easier.

The SHOW TODAY - WEIGHT LOSS

Dr. Chambers On call today is about weight loss with special guest Austin Andrews from TV's The Biggest Loser...the latest medical news AND of course your calls and emails.

Mental Health - rights and wrongs.

Dr. Chambers On Call this coming Sunday December 11th 4-5 PM on KFWB News Talk 980 is focussed on mental health in particular schizophrenia.  My special guest is Professor Elyn Saks (bio below). More details as the week progresses.

Elyn Saks

Associate Dean and Orrin B. Evans Professor of Law, Psychology, and Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences

In 2007 I published a book called The Center Cannot Hold: My Journey Through Madness, recounting my decades-long battle with schizophrenia. As I see it, people with mental illness are largely misunderstood, too often feared, and in need of more legal protection. By "coming out" as one of many high-functioning people with mental illness, I hoped to aid understanding. And through my scholarship about law and psychiatry, I hope to show how law helps people with mental illness engage with the world in an equitable and productive manner. My memoir, and other writing, led to a "genius grant" from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, which I plan to use to help spread my message to lawmakers and others in the community.
